Terahertz
radiation occupies wavelength range between infrared
radiation and radio-waves. It contains valuable information about
processes in live cells, constituency of the materials and composition of gases.
In astronomy the terahertz radiation reveals density of
cold dust clouds.
Therefore an access to the THz range is rewarding but difficult because of low
energy of the photons. A successful THz imager should have a ultra-sensitive
sensor, loss-free
optical system and efficient spectral
filters. All these aspects of the
Terahertz vision are under development at RHUL.
