Since I retired from Royal Holloway, University of London, in September
1996 I have been engaged from time to time in voluntary work related to the Oliver
Collection (on behalf of the S.A. Oliver Charitable Settlement).
My work on the Oliver
Collection, the cataloguing of which was completed by Joan Wintour in 1995, was
designed to promote an increased awareness of the Collection among the public
by the mounting of exhibitions of selections from it and by
the provision on the web of bibliographical lists of material from it related
to the local
history of towns within the vicinity.
When I retired I also took the opportunity afforded by increased leisure to indulge my long standing personal interest in the Great War, 1914-1918 not only by extending my reading on the subject but also by working from time to time on the compilation of a bibliography (still in progress) of some British aspects of the Great War which have been of particular interest to me.
