An oral history of general practice An oral history of general practice in Paisley: locality and the diffusion of medical knowledge and innovation c.1950-1990 Between 1998 and 2001 thirty-one general practitioners (GPs) were interviewed about their lives. The study was funded by the Wellcome Trust's history of medicine programme. The grantholders were Malcolm Nicolson of the Wellcome Unit for the History of Medicine and Graham Watt of the Department of General Practice at the University of Glasgow. Over the next year the British Journal of General Practice will publish a series of short articles based on the oral evidence that was collected by Graham Smith. Each of he articles will be available on this site after their publication in the journal. Additional material will accompany each article including selected sound files from the original recordings.
