Like many things in life, Mathematics is about both, knowing and
doing; and these two things are somehow inseparable from one
another. In practice Mathematics often comes down to recognising,
analysing and classifying structures. Although we usually search for
`general results', at each stage single examples (and counterexamples)
- the manufacture of small pieces of structure, if you like - play a
key role.
But what then is structure? This question can quickly lead into a
philosophical cul-de-sac, and the best way to avoid trouble is to look
at concrete examples. Perhaps some of the links below give you a
glimpse of my personal mathematical world. Perhaps it can serve as
a small panopticon. For the moment I am just collecting everything
that relates to my - hopefully not too narrow - mathematical
interests.
