Objectives
  • to characterize the proteome from Arabidopsis ecotypes selected for contrasted responses to environmental conditions
  • Strategy
  • screening of a collection of 76 accessions for changes in root system architecture under phosphate starvation (Chevalier et al., 2003;  pdf)
  • root proteome analysis by two-dimensional gel electrophoresis and MALDI-TOF MS, hierarchical clustering of data (Chevalier et al., 2004;  pdf)
  • Results
  • annotated 2D maps of root proteins from 8 Arabidopsis ecotypes
  •   - 2 very close accessions (Col 0, Col 4) showing the classical double response to phosphate starvation (decrease in both lenght of primary root and number of lateral roots)
    Col 0Col 4
      - 3 widely-used accessions (Cvi 0, Ler 1, Ws 1) showing also the classical double response
    Cvi0Ler 1Ws 1
      - and 3 accessions (Be 0, Ll 0, Rld 1) showing only one of the two responses
    Be 0LI 0Rld 1
  • classification of proteomes according to protein maps and functions
