A good overview of the Military Orders

This is a good site which serves two purposes. Firstly its provides a useful background on each of the miltiary orders and its history. There is also some discussion on each of the main themes that affected the major crusading orders which is also of interest. This summary is useful and concise providing a good introduction into the orders themselves and the related topic. The site also has a good bibliography on each of the military orders.


The Military Orders of Cyprus

This site is an excellent source of information for the military orders of cyprus with plenty of information concerning the military orders as a whole. One article, in particular, written be P.Edbury is an excellent source for infomation on this subject. The site also contains much material on the history of Cyprus during the crusades.


The Portugeese Military Orders

This is an extremely detailed source talking exhausitvely about the history of the military orders with particular reference to the Portugeese military Orders. It also contains an overview of the military orders as a whole. This site has a great deal of potential particularly for those interested in Portugal but has much relavance for those who are looking for more general information on the history of the military orders,


The Worlds most popular Templar Site

A good and, rarely enough, a fairly detailed look at the Templars from conception to destruction. It is clear that some sutdy has gone into this site development. It aslo has useful sections on related topics such as Saladin and also a shop, so that you can purchase Templar related texts.


The Catholic Encyclopeadia: The Hospitallers.

A highly detailed site for the history of the Hospitallers. It provides a clear and full history of the order and a wide range of supplementary information.


The Ecole Initiative

A good background to the military orders. Focusing mainly on the history of the Military Orders in the holy land it is a good source for those seeking a basic understanding of the orders and the issues which surrounded their creation and survival.
