For how would Christ not fulfil His promise, just as He said, to give the greatest gifts to the good? And it would not be unavailing nor deceitful that God, ruler of all, should single out kings, as a much greater reward accompanies those that bear greater burdens than others. So he is allotted the greatest honour of kings, who is most burdened for the sake of Christ Who is God. It is indeed not proper, and not fitting, and not tolerable, for he who sweated more to have less reward.
