These are a series of works which take stills from television and combine them with collected subtitles from other television productions. The associative effect of the text with image relies on the fact that the two are designed, when used traditionally, directly to correspond with each other in a way which is useful and error-free. Such a relationship is hard - if not impossible - to discard, and the resulting stills therefore maintain a legitimacy of authority despite their new contextual meanings. The first collection of stills is the least successful simply due to the quality of image and text. The second version improves on this, and the third, largely due to the purchase of a new camera, is up to the standard I was trying to achieve. I will be producing more of these works in future.
