My Work

My work in the library involves:

• maintaining and upgrading core information systems and services
• providing library users and library staff with a stable and efficient library infrastructure
• thinking of ways in which technologies can be applied to library services
• developing new ideas of improvements to systems and services

Our Systems and Services include include:

• the main library management system (Aleph) that holds our full catalogue of books, our list of users and processes all loans, returns, renewals and requests for you.
• digital resource systems including our e-resources portal (Metalib) and link resolver (SFX) that enables us to tell you where you are able to view the full text of a digital resource
• PC Labs and printing systems in the library
• The Library website
• Systems support for Moodle our Virtual Learning Environment
• Online Reading Lists
• Refworks Online Citation Management Service
• General IT Support for Library Staff
• Second line support for Systems queries from users
• Reading professional literature to ensure we are keeping up with developments within the sector.
• Integrating all these systems and services and also connecting them with other campus services like Campus Connect

The Systems Lab

Some of the projects in development or experimental services we are working on:

• Using helpdesk software to manage systems team issues and library enquiries more generally
• Library 2.0 and the future of the catalogue
• RFID and Self-Check
• Zotero: a citation management tool for Firefox
• Providing library services within the browser
• Single Sign On to Library Services
